Turn a mesh or scan into an editable solid
Rebuild an STL, OBJ, or 3D scan as native features you can change, with true holes and faces.
Steps
- 1
Point Vector at the file
Paste the full local path. Mention what the part is and which features matter.
Example request Open C:\Scans\cover.stl. It is a battery cover; rebuild it as an editable solid with the two screw holes as true cylinders.
- 2
Align it first if needed
Scans often arrive at an arbitrary position and orientation.
Example request Move the scan so the mounting face sits on the XY plane and the long edge runs along X.
- 3
Modify the result
Once it’s a solid, change it like any other part.
Example request Change both hole diameters to 4.4 mm and export a STEP file next to the original.
Accuracy
Scans are noisy. Ask Vector to report how far the rebuilt solid deviates from the mesh on the features you care about, and decide whether that is close enough for your use.
